Nathan Bryce and Loaded Dice Release “Drunk Dial Baby”

Nathan Bryce

We’ve all had that moment. The phone lights up late at night and you already know what it is before you even look. Nathan Bryce and Loaded Dice took that exact situation and turned it into one of the more fun tracks I’ve heard in a while.

“Drunk Dial Baby” is a bit of a left turn for the Kansas City trio. They’ve built their reputation on heavier blues rock, but this one leans into funk and soul and it works really well for them. The rhythm section is the first thing you notice. Jerry Paswaters’ bass line settles in early and keeps everything feeling loose and comfortable, and Dylan Halacy’s drumming sits right in that sweet spot where it’s driving without being pushy. Bryce’s guitar hangs back through the verses and then opens up in the chorus in a way that feels earned.

Lyrically it’s honest without taking itself too seriously, which is exactly the right call for this kind of song. “She only calls me after a couple shots of whiskey” tells you everything you need to know in one line. The bridge sums the whole thing up pretty well too, and the closer, “I’ll pick up that phone. Every. Damn. Time.” is funny because it’s true and everyone listening knows it.

It came out on February 13th, which is good timing. It’s a track worth adding to the rotation.
